Background: Dr. Mahalingam Govindraj, holding a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Genetics from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, is a leading figure at CGIAR's HarvestPlus Division. Dr. Govindraj specializes in Sorghum and Pearl Millet Breeding, particularly in biofortification projects. He has led the development of high-iron/zinc hybrids for India and West and Central Africa, resulting in the release of high-iron variety Dhanashakti and the first three iron biofortified pearl millet hybrids (ICMH 1202, ICMH 1203, and ICMH 1301) in India.
