He has also played a major role in introducing and including a seed conservation programme in Karnataka's organic farming policy.

I focus on genetic augmentation of foxtail millet grain yield by identifying trait-specific genotypes and enriching sorghum grain micronutrients through breeding and molecular approaches. As a Principal Investigator, I conduct DUS testing in sorghum for Plant Variety Protection and significantly contribute to sorghum parental line development and hybrid breeding. Recently, I identified promising genotypes in foxtail millet, leading to four high-yielding selections under multi-location testing.

Dr. Hemalatha, President of the Nutrition Society of India and Executive Council Member of the Federation of Asian Nutrition Societies (FANS), serves on various national nutrition committees, including NITI Aayog.
